Dale started a design practice in 2013, out of a passion to focus on well made goods. Working in many different materials from wood, to concrete to clay, he is passionate about creating and building unique works.
Although Dale started out making furniture he has slowly moved into sculpture and painting since 2019. He finds that it is an easier form and expression for his stories. Stories from his past, present and hopes for the future. Informed by many artist friends and love for design, Dale draws from emotions and story. Telling stories in his works of struggles and celebrations.
The work is a pursuit to tell grounded stories from a spot of reflection, learning and leaning into his elders wisdom. Many of Dale’s works are reflective of his relationships, thoughts on community and time spent in connection to the sacredness of everyday, the land and those who tell stories of the great mystery.
Born in Whitehorse Yukon and growing up in Alberta, Dale attributes his passion for sharing stories through his work and sense of his adventure to those who led the way for him. From his grandfather moving across the country from Toronto to Whitehorse in the 1960’s, his father moving to Whitehorse in the late 70’s. Dale has dear friends who continue to encourage him to tell stories from the heart and the land. He strives to connect to his work and to those interested in the arts. He draws energy from his wife and kids who continually guide him in seeking truth and wonder in this life.
