A friend of mine got into Astro photography after his partner of 42 years past away. I remember having a conversation with him about what life is like now. He said “it’s hard getting up when your biggest cheerleader is gone.” Thinking about this made me think about what we aim for as individuals, couples. For ourselves, our kids, our friends. This is for big K. Truly one of the kindest, gentle souls I have met.

I have thought about the documentary “Stutz” for weeks. After pondering this doc, I wanted to put my thoughts into a physical realm. Ours to receive is a depiction of the floating goodness around us. How can we shift our mindset to capture that? How can we adopt a positive mindset?

I am certain of one thing, I am certainly uncertain of most everything. The more trips around the sun I have it’s given me this truth. I become more uncertain of most. Living in the grey is not an easy thing. We are being pulled every which way to make decisions. At work, home, politically, religiously. This is my expression of all those. Do I truly have an opinion? I am not certain.
Treat those around you with the utmost love and respect. That is hard enough and beyond that I can’t be certain of it.

This painting came from a conversation with our kids. After many hours of trying to clean the room I offered to help. They said “dad, I just don’t like myself right now.” That was deflating as a parent to hear. I just responded there is no judgment here. It’s tough and I am here to help. When I tuck my kids in to bed I often ask creator to help them be kind. Be kind to others but be kid to themselves. Navigating the heart is not something there is a playbook for. It’s up and down, erratic even. Surrounding yourself with good people who can help you be kind to yourself is important. To my family and my close ones, I love you a million. Enjoy and ponder.

Assurance and confidence are finicky things. Sometimes you have them some times you don’t. It’s not only about what you do when you have it but also about what you do when you don’t. Back drop of this canvas is covered in one single phrase “what the f*ck am I doing?”
